Nereid

Nereids are sea creatures in Greek mythology. They are the 50 daughters of the sea-god, Nereus and the sea goddess (and half-sister of Nereus), Doris. They are beautiful women who are friendly to sailors and are said to have the powers of prophecy. They live in the Mediterranean sea and are often depicted riding a dolphin or  seahorse or another sea creature. They are also in Poseidon's retinue, which we see reflected in astronomy. Nereid is the name of the third largest moon for the planet Neptune (the roman name for Poseidon).

This is a good site with a lot of information including where Nereids can be found in literary epics such as the Iliad and other mythological sources. http://www.theoi.com/Pontios/Nereides.html

Glitter in their Eyes- Patti Smith

The Iron Fairies

This website has some nice little iron figurines of fairies. The website is interactive and has a little reading comprehension game. The site was a little bit glitchy for me, but it seems to work for the most part. There are a few other products on the site such as jewelry and something called a fairy bag, which is a regular cloth bag from the looks of it. http://www.theironfairies.com/

Natural Life- free spirit treaures

This site has a collection of bags, jewelry, and other accessories for the 'free spirit' (as the website states frequently). The products on this site are fun and whimsical and very 'alternative/ gypsy-ish'. Chances are that you'll have seen things like this somewhere else, but the prices are reasonable and the products are interesting.

Faerie Fan Vid

A video with of scenes of a 'faerie' walking through a forest mixed with scenes of someone pointing to pictures in fairy books or wildlife shots. The person put a bit of effort into making it. It's kind of artsy and a bit amateur but the music's nice. The two songs are "Sora's Folktale" by Yoko Kanno and "Fairy Child" by The Dreamside.

This video has a woman video taping kids in the back yard and they come upon something interesting near an old tree.

It's obviously staged, but the cg's pretty good.

Michael Parkes

Parkes is an imaginary realism artist. His style is a sort of uncertain combination of old and new that I'm not sure I like, but the figures are skillfully painted and the compositions on the whole are quite nice to look at.  Here's his website http://www.theworldofmichaelparkes.com/html/home.asp
